Does Using RAM based Linux Distros Improve Laptop Battery Life?

Linux Distros like DSL and Puppy run entirely within the Ram of the computer, with no HDD's spinning and so forth wouldnt that improve battery life....or since this O/S's were not optimized for laptops but rather legacy systems does it negate any energy saved by being RAM based?
